Seville has a special colour

As the famous song goes "Sevilla tiene un color especial" - Seville has a special colour – it is true to say that the historic capital of Andalusia certainly does have a different vibe, compared to other Spanish cities.

The locals, “Los Sevillanos” are intensely proud of their city, claiming it is the most beautiful in Spain, and the warmth of the city does not just refer to the weather, but also the welcoming locals. Seville really does have something for everyone: history, culture, architecture, gastronomy and flamenco music late into the night. During the hot summer days, the sweltering mid-afternoon temperatures mean that the city shuts down until around 8pm, when the streets fill up again until late.

Why not watch the sunset over the river Guadalquivir? Or even take a boat ride and take in the stunning views of the city. Another alternative form of “sevillano” transport is horse and carriage – a novel way to discover the city instead of your standard tour buses found in most cities.

For those of you who find the prospect of visiting Seville during the peak of summer difficult, you are in luck! Perhaps the most exciting time to visit the city is during April for the “Feria de Abril” – a 5-day festival dedicated to Flamenco – the true music and spirit of Andalusia, where people fill the streets, to eat, drink, dance and celebrate its heritage.

In the areas surrounding the city, there is no shortage of places to visit – such as a horse breeding farm to see where the world famous Andalusian horses are raised. If wine-tasting is your thing, the Jerez wine district – specialized in sherry, is situated less than hour south of Seville.
