For the perfect all-year-round climate

Less than 2 hours south of Valencia, along Spain’s Costa Blanca – “White Coast” is the popular tourist city of Alicante. The city experiences a peak in tourism during the summer months, but due to its pleasant climate, still attracts visitors all year round. Beach activities and watersports are usually practised from early March until late October, but there is no shortage of activities and sights to see over the winter months.

The Castle of Santa Bárbara at the summit of Mount Benacatil offers fantastic panoramic views across the city, along the beach and to the harbour. Alicante’s old town, with its winding streets is perfect for losing yourself and discovering the history of the city. The tree-lined boulevard “Explanada de España” provides a contrast to the mazey old town, and is ideal for an evening stroll to watch the world go by.

On a weekend, why not do as the locals do and visit one of the “mercadillos” – food markets that pop up all over the city. Sampling the cuisine is often the best way of learning the local culture, and that is no exception here: the locals spend their days eating, drinking, socialising and enjoying the festive atmosphere the market provides.

Just outside Alicante, the surrounding towns and villages are perfect for day-trips around the region: the picturesque towns of Denia and Altea, the high-rise tourist hub of Benidorm and Calpe with its impressive “Penyon d’Ifach” rocky mountain. Further inland are the wine regions of D.O Alicante and D.O Valencia.
